Using online video to maximise your presence in the search engine results

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

The goal is to get your video found when prospective customers search for your keywords on any of the leading search engines. Uploading your video onto publishing channels such as Youtube & Vimeo can help you maximise your presence on these search engines.

To contextualise your video content, websites such as Youtube enable you to accompany your video content with attributes like: Keywords/ Key Phrases, Title, Description, URL, Author, & Profile.

We suggest that you use contextualise your video content in the following way:

1) Keywords/ Key Phrases or Tags

Google’s keyword tool can be used to research the search traffic for different key phrases. What you’re looking for is not the most popular key phrases, but long tail key phrases instead.

2) Title

Come up with a keyphrase-rich title that is human readable. A simple list of key-phrases and keywords looks like spam, and you won’t get people clicking to watch your videos, so they won’t even enter your sales funnel.

3) Description

Most “Descriptions” give you around 200 characters to play with. Like your title, these should be keyword-rich and human readable.

Your landing page URL should be the first thing in your description. Most of the sites you submit your video to will shorten your description, and you want your URL to be seen.

4) URL

Some websites enable you to associate a URL with your video. You should use your landing page URL.

5) Author

Rather than write your name, or business, you should use your landing page URL again.

6) Profile

Use the same rules above to give prominence to your keyphrases and landing page URL in profile descriptions.

Landing pages: Just as important as your online video content

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

Having uploaded your video to the web, your next challenge is to decide where you want the people that see your video to click to. This is called a “landing page”.

Your “landing page” could be anywhere online e.g. your website, blog, or directory listing. Sticking with one page over time has significant benefits, it enables you to concentrate your SEO efforts.

The purpose of your video is to engage the viewer sufficiently to get them to click through to your landing page. The purpose of the landing page is to give them sufficiently more to encourage them to take action e.g. give you a call or send you an email. Your landing page is just as important as your video content.

Video Marketing – Reaching Your Target Market

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

Where and how you place your video content will have a huge impact on whether it ever gets seen. It is utterly pointless to create a video for your organisation if you are going to hide it away.

Distribution platforms

We have listed some of the best ways to distribute your video online:

1. Your website

This is a bit of no brainer. Prospective customers visit your website to find out about your organisation. Your video should be embedded on your homepage, or at the very least be accessible from it.

2. Other websites

Prospective customers spend the majority of their time on websites other than your own. Most industry associations and publishers have websites. What video content could you produce for them that they would happily embed on their website?

3. Online directories

Some online directories now enable you to enhance your profile listing with video content e.g. Yell.com. Video content can make you stand head and shoulders above the competition when prospective customers are looking for a new supplier.

4. Publishing channels & Social Networking Websites

Posting your video content to publishing channels such as Youtube has two benefits:

- When tagged with the relevant keywords, it makes your video content more findable in the search engine rankings.

- They also enable viewers to easily share your content with others and embed your video content on their own sites and blogs.

Summary

So there you have it, the basics on how to reach your target market using video marketing!
